About this artwork
Themis is an emblematic figure personifying the goddess of legislation. The goddess is depicted at a moment when she is weighing the good and the bad on her scales while at the same time wielding her sword to slay the injustice. The good and the bad are represented by the allegorical figures of a black raven and a white dove. The effect is skillfully achieved through the interplay between the dark patina (the raven) and the polished metal (the dove).…
The sculpture has fine jewelry elements characteristic of the author. The movement captured in the sculpture is dance-like and light, where the key balance is maintained by the two hands – the right one is holding a sword above the figure’s head, and the left one is low below, heavy from the weight of the scales. The dress of the female figure is ethereal, falling elegantly over the young athletic body characteristic of the eternally young mythological goddesses. The figure is coated with brown-green patina with bronze copper gleams.
