About this artwork
Mixed media on hand-stitched distressed canvas
Kris Gebhardt's figure paintings are a genuine portrayal of the human experience, capturing the gritty and layered nature of life in every stroke. His work reflects a sense of struggle and perseverance that is both captivating and inspiring, evident in the way he portrays his subjects on beat-up surfaces such as cardboard, tattered tarps, and dismantled crates - materials that are unconventional yet… powerful in their rawness.
What sets Gebhardt's work apart is his ability to convey depth and meaning through his distressed presentation of his subjects. The way he portrays their struggles and hardships adds an additional layer of significance, celebrating their resilience and tenacity. By drawing on "real life" experiences, both his own and those of the people around him, Gebhardt creates portraits that capture the essence of the Every Man, reminding us of the strength of the human spirit even in the face of adversity.
