About this artwork
The surface is carved, scraped, and worn down like a battlefield. Across the fractured face, Gebhardt has embedded phrases like “I don’t look back,” “no, ain’t got time,” and “six feet deep in the fire now.” It’s a mantra of forward motion — of… being past the point of retreat, running on grit and whatever clarity’s left.
The muted palette — ash greys, scorched purples, burnt ochre — echoes the emotional temperature. The materials are industrial and imperfect: mixed media layered over recycled crate wood, raw and unresolved. Just like the subject.
This isn’t a painting about survival. It’s about choosing to stay in the furnace until the work is done. For the self-made, for those who’ve earned every inch, Deep In the Fire isn’t decoration. It’s affirmation. #art #artgallery #home #o

« My Paintings are a “paintumentary.” Each piece is the story of an actual person, their hardships, successes, experiences, or an archetype of myself. »
Known for raw, distressed surfaces and large-scale figurative works, Gebhardt explores identity, resilience, and imperfection through unconventional materials and techniques. For 16 years, he has exhibited during Miami Art Week, building an international collector following.
Together with his wife, contemporary abstract artist Angela Gebhardt, the two maintain distinctly independent practices. Angela is recognized for her large-scale abstractions, layered surfaces, bold use of color and texture, and mixed-media assemblages.
