About this artwork
This work consists of sculpted paper pulp that suggests aspen tree trunks against an abstract background. "Trees" are sculpted paper pulp attached to the canvas. The shapes are lit from within by commercial grade LED copper wire lights, and additionally from behind the canvas using LED strip lighting. The piece is to be viewed in daylight, with two alternate views lit at night. Materials used include: hand sculpted paper pulp, bamboo, annealed…
wire, acrylic paint, hand blown glass from local artisans - not sharp, bristol board on canvas. Edges are finished, with no need to frame. Sculpted paper "tree" shapes extend past the canvas vertically, making the piece several inches taller than the actual canvas.
Theme of this piece was inspired by a stand or group of individual aspen trees considered a singular organism with the main life force underground in the extensive root system, serving as a metaphor to examine human individuality amidst community.
