Kristel Jacobs is passionate about the past, the decorum, the etiquette, and the formal. She paints portraits as well as still life, landscapes, and cityscapes. The subjects of her paintings may vary a lot, there is uniformity in the way that she paints and the subtle, fairytale-like detailing of each painting.
'Cocoon' started out as a lady with a veil, mysterious and peaceful. As the painting grew, the veil was omitted and replaced by a bell… jar, delicately painted. It suggests a feeling of safety, almost like a cocoon, and a feeling of change. The numerous butterflies that flutter around emphasize the feeling of transition.
