About this artwork
This work explores identity stripped of social superstructures through a mirror-portal. On the outside, real limbs display the coherent facade we present to the world; on the inside, reality is radically reversed in a chaotic reflection, mediated by a fogged-up window and an overturned chair that reveal our defenses and unstable equilibrium.
In place of a face, a grapefruit, with its bitter aftertaste, embodies the brutal honesty and bitter truths… required for self-knowledge. Around it, flowers celebrate the beauty that blossoms from chaos and our own impermanence, while a shadow on the right represents an unresolved inner burden. A delicate gold and dark blue damask decoration emerges from this space, reminiscent of modern chinoiserie, spreading across the surfaces like an ancient fresco worn by time. This fragmented and discontinuous pattern is not an ornament, but symbolizes the fragility of our deepest structures.
