About this artwork
Trace began with gesso — layers of it, thick, uneven, almost sculptural. I wanted the surface to feel like something the earth made, not a painter.
Then came the colour: silver-green, pearl, and deep ink-black veins that crack through the surface like dried riverbeds seen from a plane. The texture is violent and quiet at the same time — deep fissures next to silk-smooth pools of pearlescent white. You run your eyes along the cracks and they pull… you in like a map of something ancient.
This is not painted in the usual sense. It is built. Gesso, acrylic, lacquer — each layer reacting to the one beneath it, splitting, settling, revealing what is underneath. Nothing is hidden. Everything that happened during the making is still visible.
Trace is what remains after the process is finished. The painting remembers how it was born.
One edition. No prints.
