About this artwork
In this world, there are no small things. All are one and hold their own significance. Brand uses art to expound his understanding of Buddhist philosophy in order to bring teachings to those who may not have been fortunate enough to receive them yet. The uses raw expressionistic imagery and composition to break down the viewer's blocks to deeper perception and realization.

« One stroke, one cut, one breath. Repeat. I disappear into the work, it's not about me. »
Kurtis Brand is an American painter, textile artist, and sculptor whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Guatemala. Referring to his compositions as "contemplative art", he cites the practice of Zen Buddhism as well as the themes of emptiness and meditation as being ever-present in his artistic expression. Brand's pieces are often created using materials such as cotton and earth, coupled with acrylics and colored pencils on fabric, wood, or canvas.
