DHATURA belongs to the series ‘Not for your Vase’ which celebrates the flowers that typically do not make it to our vases, luxury arrangements and bouquets. The flowers that form the backbone of this series are not only beautiful and delicate, but at the same time have a wild, rebellious streak in them. They take from nature whatever little they need and survive on their own terms. Depending on how you look at them, you can call them a weed, a poison,…
or a medicine!
It was in West Bengal where I first saw these majestic flowers. But it was during my trip to Nagaland when I truly fell in love with them. The Dhaturas here were twice as big and in shades I did not know they existed in! I was so mesmerized by the ‘Dance of the Dhaturas’, that I could not lift my eyes from them.
Standing proudly alongside roads, ditches, and sandy washes, Datura tells a story of survival, beauty, and mysticism.
