About this artwork
What I feel more profoundly every year as I go through my life is that even the smallest things have to be done with all my heart. What is the sincerity of heart then? If I had put all my heart into it, I would have been there naturally before I even thought of it, but I may not have been conscious of it. And rather than going through the process of right and wrong through discernment, I believe I should go back to what has already been and know…

As it is written in the Flower Garland Sutra that the mind is like a painter who paints and can create the whole world and all things come from the mind, trying to find the place and return to it must be much more natural than trying not to do it. The work I represent as a painting, therefore, has no reason not to be one of the processes towards the original place of the mind. By working through intuition, every day, at the moment, I take a step to the place where I have already been.

Lacey Kim is an emerging South Korean artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in solo and group shows internationally. Practicing art ever since she was a kid, Kim defined her style in a line-based language exploring layering and color combinations in oil on canvas. Working intuitively, her abstract paintings are characterized by bright colors and gestures full of movement and kinetic rhythm.
