About this artwork
In my artistic explorations around encaustic, this mixture of beeswax and natural resin, I started by making these small squares in 12 x 12 cm format. Today I have moved on to larger formats but I continue to happily make these small squares and move from very small to very large format according to my desires.
In these small formats we find my favorite process (watercolor on paper mounted on wood, encaustic, photo, gold leaf) but here the support… is an 18 mm thick square of medium with black edges. The back is pierced with a hole for direct hanging on a simple nail. They can also be simply placed.
As in the larger formats, we dive into dreamlike landscapes bordering on abstraction. Encaustic brings a vaporous finish to the softness of watercolor and serves as a support for integrating my photos and the paper for the touch of light.
