Like all of us, I have been especially devastated by the Genocide in Gaza. the first few months I was unable to make playful sculptures.
Resistance was an experiment in sculpting wax around a stone, making the stone a part of the sculpture rather than an addition.
Resistance was sculpted using the direct wax method; there is no mold of this sculpture, it's a one of a kind like all my sculptures, single edition.
It was then cast in bronze in my… backyard using a home made furnace. Part of the stone shattered by the impact of 1200c molten bronze and part survived and became embedded in the bronze
I mostly learned the Ceramic shell method of lost wax casting from books, and trial and error, lots of errors!
The patina on this bronze was made using brushed chemicals & torch heating, and finally a wax layer was applied to protect the patina.
« I am inspired by a conscious decision to live life in playing mode, with lightness, in the hope to also share that lightness with others as they experience my sculptures. »
Lamia Fakhoury is an experienced sculptor based in Jordan whose works have been exhibited nationally. Fascinated by the human figure, her figurative compositions are most often imbued with positivity and playfulness. Creating in themed series, Fakhoury initially began sculpting in clay, making molds then casting in resin. However, she now creates using the lost wax technique, preferring to cast in bronze.
