Her feet have walked through fire; Her back was broken by grief; her body ravaged by war; her face scarred by loss; yet she still stands in hope for a better tomorrow!
Still Standing was sculpted in plasticine on a welded iron armature. After mold making in 2 parts, I made a part wax copy using brushing & slushing technique.
This was an experiment using jewelry-making investment powder. However, as this is fragile material primarily made for small… sized molds, I had to build an inclosure to protect the powder from disintegrating, resulting in a bronze casting mold that required seven men just to transport it to the burn out kiln!
« I am inspired by a conscious decision to live life in playing mode, with lightness, in the hope to also share that lightness with others as they experience my sculptures. »
Lamia Fakhoury is an experienced sculptor based in Jordan whose works have been exhibited nationally. Fascinated by the human figure, her figurative compositions are most often imbued with positivity and playfulness. Creating in themed series, Fakhoury initially began sculpting in clay, making molds then casting in resin. However, she now creates using the lost wax technique, preferring to cast in bronze.
