About this artwork
The artist lives in Amman, a city built on seven hills, connected by long winding stairs that allow pedestrians to move with ease from one hill to the next. Living through the Covid pandemic focused her attention again on both the aesthetic beauty as well as usefulness of the stairs, as during quarantine Jordanian where allowed to walk but not drive, and the stairs once again became the lifeline of the city. She started painting again as scenes… of the city became present in her daily life, often she would walk the street and stairs alone, and thought of the choices people make every day, she pictured her sculptures on those streets and steps, representing a life that was put on hold in many ways.
« I am inspired by a conscious decision to live life in playing mode, with lightness, in the hope to also share that lightness with others as they experience my sculptures. »
Lamia Fakhoury is an experienced sculptor based in Jordan whose works have been exhibited nationally. Fascinated by the human figure, her figurative compositions are most often imbued with positivity and playfulness. Creating in themed series, Fakhoury initially began sculpting in clay, making molds then casting in resin. However, she now creates using the lost wax technique, preferring to cast in bronze.
