poppy was considered an attribute of the god of sleep Morpheus (among the Greeks - Hypnos). When the goddess of the dark night enveloped the Earth in her veil, Morpheus appeared in heaven. He flew over the Earth, always holding a bouquet of poppy heads with him, and with one touch of a magic flower he could put any person to sleep. And according to Buddhist legend, a poppy appeared on the ground in the place where the eyelashes of the sleeping Buddha touched it.
