About this artwork
This painting is as interesting to view up close as it is from a distance. The artist first layered the canvas with sheet-rock mud and various kinds of paper to achieve interesting textures. Then she applied layers of paint and charcoal marks creating an abundance of complexity in a small work.

Langley Tolbert is a modern-day abstract expressionist based in Georgia. Her work is influenced by such icons of the genre as Franz Kline and Joan Mitchell. As an intuitive artist, Tolbert composes a painting as she paints it, letting her instincts tell her when it is finished. Working mainly in acrylics, she often enhances her paintings with collage, texturing medium, ink and pastels. She says she never runs out of things to try.
