The shadow in this painting refers to the movement of the sun in relation to time. Time and transience are interrelated. This relationship is considered throughout the series and project. The willow branch collected from a felled Salix Tortuosa tree represents instability and the fragile nature of life, also displayed in the dying and drying of the leaves.

Larain Briggs, a British painter, embraces a multi-disciplinary approach in her artistic practice. Briggs currently resides on the East Coast in the
UK, where she is engaged in doctoral studies in fine art at the University
of East London. Inspired by Jungian concepts, her work establishes a dialogue with the unconscious, employing transformative processes to facilitate individuation. Grounded in Jungian theory, Briggs perceives the contemporary world, marked by radical shifts in philosophy, religion, science, and art, as an archetypal apocalypse, in line with Jungian theory, wherein humanity collectively confronts a global catastrophe of uncertain magnitude. Guided by a sense of awe and apprehension towards the escalating complexity of the digital realm, her research explores the meta-crisis and the digital sublime.
