About this artwork
"Plague Doctor" is my interpretation of protection and alienation in times of threat. The iconic beaked mask represents distance—an attempt to set oneself apart without losing oneself. The figure is hunched but steadfast, with a staff and bag as a symbol of her role and responsibility. She is not simply human, but something in between—observer, admonisher, survivor.
The dark copper tones evoke decay, earth, and blood, while the pale hands suggest… fragility and transience. For me, the Plague Doctor is not just a historical symbol, but a mirror of our present: How do we confront fear? What masks do we wear? And what remains when we remove them?
