About this artwork
Exposition “Fragments d’Emotions” - The Muisca Gallery (Paris Le Marais) - 29 January - 12 February 2026
In Strata, the second movement of the Gravity of Colors trilogy, the horizontal suspension of the first piece gives way to the inevitable pull of verticality.
This transition represents the moment where gravity takes hold: the colors no longer float, but begin to fall and stretch down the canvas. The palette shifts from the cool, monochromatic… grays of Momentum into a rich, earthy spectrum of burnt orange, deep crimson, and streaks of electric blue.
I put heavy, vertical impasto strokes to illustrate a beautiful loss of control. The paint flows and drips, creating a sense of acceleration and raw movement. In Strata, we witness the transformation of color from an abstract idea into physical matter that is actively reacting to its own weight and the passage of time.
Laura Buruiana is a multidisciplinary artist and acclaimed concert cellist of Romanian origin, now based in France, who channels her rich musical background onto canvas. Her technique weaves impasto layers, rhythmic scraping, and chromatic counterpoint, using brushes, palette knives, and unconventional tools to create tactile, sculptural paintings that evoke musical structures and resonances. Her style balances lyricism with rigor, translucency with depth, and the spontaneous gesture with disciplined composition. Buruiana’s paintings powerfully convey a profound emotional density—transforming the fleeting intimacy of sound into a permanent, visual “resonance” filled with both movement and silence.
