About this artwork
This painting is based off a memory of driving around the Welsh landscape in an area called 'Snowdonia' . Laura started by creating a small colour study (see additional image). This helps anchor the idea of space, shape and light, so the subsequent painting can then have 'permission' to flow more intuitively having considered the composition in advance. The memory of rolling hills and distant trees helped counterbalance the restrictions of lockdown.

« I try to simplify what I see and allow the paint to guide me in exploring mark making and gestural brushstrokes that convey feeling rather than representational information. »
