About this artwork
Pushing to develop her painting practice, Laura has used her appreciation of pattern and movement in this gestural painting of a river scene. 'Slaney' refers to a river located in the south east corner of Ireland where Laura grew up. A haven for wildlife, it features in many of Laura's paintings. The boats are call 'cots' devised specially by the local people long ago, to 'punt' up and down the river - a skill now in the hands of a small few.

« I try to simplify what I see and allow the paint to guide me in exploring mark making and gestural brushstrokes that convey feeling rather than representational information. »
