About this artwork
"Calypso" is a frame-like work on which the artist intervened with a weaving made of blue ribbon. The work evokes the sea: the ocean that Ulysses crosses before being shipwrecked on the island of Ogygia, where he meets the beautiful nymph Calypso. Always alone, she sings and weaves with a golden shuttle, welcoming the hero to her cave in the woods.
This work explores the theme of emotional bonds, love, and expectation through the figures of the… Odyssey: Ulysses and Calypso. Calypso builds on GuildA's previous work: an object to be manipulated, a sort of rectified readymade that the artist uses to convey reflections on current events.
