About this artwork
A creation can take months, or even years to find the right balance ...
I started this sculpture in brass wire during the first confinement, it rested several months before agreeing to wear a gold mantle. It is 24 carat gold plated.
More pretentious then, she demanded her personal base!
After several tests, I opted for this block of oak to work with the golden pigment filling its cracks, and a treatment with India ink to contrast with its golden… lines.
Today she feels like a queen and agrees to show off 😉

« When I conceive my sculptures, I see them first springing up in my imagination in the form of intersecting lines. »
Laure Simoneau is a prizewinning, established French sculptor who has exhibited her work extensively. Her sculptures are made with steel and use delicate lines and negative space to create innovative portraits. Simoneau's sculptures are reminiscent of art deco work of the 1920s and 30s, especially as it appeared in illustrated and printed works. In a contemporary context, Simoneau's work also aligns with line drawing, a minimalist style which the artist brings into full effect in three dimensional form.
