About this artwork
"Faunes" belongs to the most recent expression of the "Great Embraces" series begun in the 90s and reappearing recurrently in the paintings of Laurence Forbin. It is the knot of forms generated by the ephemeral meeting of two moving bodies that is at the center of these paintings, as well as their stability in a space without any real lair. This balance and this centrifugal force have to do in Forbin's imagination with the stability in an abstract… space of Chinese characters.
« Everything moves and changes, everything is connected and everything is held together. »
Laurence Forbin is a painter and draftsman based in France whose works have been exhibited nationally, in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Portugal, and South Korea. She describes her artistic expression as being built around expression, as well as being nourished by the tradition of Chinese calligraphy. Forbin's bold pieces are created using oils on linen or metal.
