About this artwork
This painting belongs to the series of Portées. One carries the other, in a more dramatic climate than that of Embraces: presence of wind, of water: are they crossing the sea, a ford? Are they fleeing, are they just laughing but it weighs on the shoulders of the other. As in Embraces, as in the forests, as on the Cargos there are knots of flesh or steel or wood.
In my painting, whatever the subject or theme, everything is connected, and nature,… including human nature, convulses, becomes passionate, ties itself together, carries. Cargo ships would escape this bundle of emotions? They too are large platforms carrying men across the seas and their destinations are those of dreams.
« Everything moves and changes, everything is connected and everything is held together. »
