About this artwork
You will be welcome, either that the blond dawn
Lift up the side of her ruddy curtain,
Or, that the white horses that drag the sun
Sink their nostrils and their chests into the waves,
Let the night in the air comb her black hair.
Under the silent arches of the deep cave,
Where the light dreams lead their round without noise,
Receive benignly my incense and my wishes,
Sleep, sad and gentle god, comforter of the world!
Théophile Gautier.

« I question myself in the face of our lives, love, memory, and beauty. Links are woven between these universes. Ties with soft, voluptuous, and sometimes melancholic perfumes. »
Laurent Navarre is an award-winning artist based in France whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally. In addition, his art is featured in the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Châlons-en-Champagne. For Navarre, it is not the search for realism that engages him, rather, he is fascinated by realizing the unconscious and conveying a "poetry of the troubled". Through revealing and erasing, his compositions depict human emotions, and all that inevitably fades with time.
