Sometimes when creating an abstract piece of art, surprises happen along the way. With this painting, Laurie applied thick black brush strokes around the canvas, making lines that looped and zig-zagged to create bold shapes and marks against a soft palette of earth tones. When she stepped away from the easel to take in the entire painting, there was her surprise..... a construction zone, complete with trucks, cranes, diggers, and workers. She feels…
she probably could not have created a more dynamic building site if she had tried to paint one on purpose! That is the delicious freedom of a process approach; letting go of expectations and discovering what emerges before your eyes.
