The Distant is an abstract landscape using a calm, elegant palette of pale pink brown, cream, off white, deep midnight blue, charcoal and gold. This is part of the Rain series.
This artwork has so many interesting areas of subtle texture and washes of gentle colour.
The painting flows over the deep edge canvas and it is signed on the edge.
A clear varnish protects the mixed media collage and gold leaf - and when the gold leaf is lit up by light,… it glows beautifully.

Laurie Franklin is an experienced artist based in Australia whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. She describes her artistic practice as being based on being in nature and drawing upon the landscapes that surround her. Having lived on four different continents, Franklin's works as deeply influenced by her memories, photographs, and plein air painting. She most often creates with acrylics, oils, watercolors, charcoal, pastel, and collage on canvas or wood.
