About this artwork
The artist is a lover of the out of doors, and has been painting a series called My Back Yard for years. It celebrates the diverse plant life of California. Nest was intended to be a nonobjective abstract painting, but to the artist, it began to look like a bird's nest in the middle!

Laurie MacMillan is an experienced American painter whose work has featured in publications, prizes and exhibitions throughout California. She turned to visual art after two careers in real estate and tourism, and now primarily composes botanical paintings inspired by the natural world and the earth's geology. MacMillan ultimately hopes to make each viewer feel uplifted by and close to nature.
