About this artwork
After losing her home and studio in a wildfire, the artist moved to a home with a large garden. She found herself wandering the paths and working with the plants, and became fascinated with the cycle of life she was seeing. All along, she had loved mountains and geology, and she realized that her new interest in botany was about the same thing: the inevitability of change in life. Mountains uplift and erode, and plants grow, die and are reborn.…

Laurie MacMillan is an experienced American painter whose work has featured in publications, prizes and exhibitions throughout California. She turned to visual art after two careers in real estate and tourism, and now primarily composes botanical paintings inspired by the natural world and the earth's geology. MacMillan ultimately hopes to make each viewer feel uplifted by and close to nature.
