About this artwork
The artist has been a lifelong outdoors enthusiast, and loves mountains. After she participated in geology trip to the California's Sierra, she did this painting. Upon finishing, she realized that it reminded her of the dormant volcanos in that area -- and her geology professor agreed! This painting in oil and cold wax is in a black wood floater frame with a narrow gold front edge.

Laurie MacMillan is an experienced American painter whose work has featured in publications, prizes and exhibitions throughout California. She turned to visual art after two careers in real estate and tourism, and now primarily composes botanical paintings inspired by the natural world and the earth's geology. MacMillan ultimately hopes to make each viewer feel uplifted by and close to nature.
