About this artwork
This work is glitter on paper, with BlK 3.0 (the worlds blackest black paint) in a shallow shadowbox frame with stenciled glass, with the word "FALL" and "OUT" on the top and bottom of an image of an Atomic Bomb frosted on the inside. This frosting creates a very focused view on the glitter the comes through, and frames the context of the image under.
So many things, culturally and politically, were happening in the 1960. There was a huge counter-culture,… fashion culture, and all wrapped up in a bow with a nice side of Cold War. Since WWII, the US was on constant alert of nuclear attack from then U.S.S.R. We had drills in class and informational commercials during our favorite TV programs. I love blending these cultural milestones into a single, complex, image to tell the broad story of the time. The iconic fashion image from Christian Dior always reminded me of a nuclear explosion (if you look at it upside-down). Beautiful depiction of a nuclear winter.
