Human connection, which is seemingly easy and for the taking, is anything but. We learn at an early age that being connected, and staying connected is a lifetime of effort and struggle. That being said, it is well worth the pursuit. As a child of divorce, growing up in the 1970s, my separation was immediate. Unlike our modern times where the divorce rate is staggering, and the normalization of families disbanding makes growing up as a child of…
divorce standard, rather than taboo, or illicit fawning sympathies, I bore the brunt of neighbors, teachers, coaches all categorizing me in that special class of broken toy...although it had nothing to do with me. As a result, my isolation grew, and that became my normal.
Not allowing these relationships to fade, whether the hinderance be time, motivation, personal change, or divorce, staying connected keeps our story going...at least it did for me when I figured out the value.
