About this artwork
In this textile wall hanging Lawrence explores the dark alienation which underlines both Romanticism and the landscape which surrounds us. The artist uses a theatrical gothic aesthetic in combination with industrial made idealized depictions of rural landscapes.

« My work represents things in-between other things. I look at in-between landscapes, my process is in-between sculpture and drawing and the end results are between utilitarian products and "useless" art. »
Lawrence Bailey is a draftsman, textile artist, and sculptor based in the Netherlands whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Spain. His art often explores elements of the landscape, as well as how people use or relate to it. In particular, Baile investigates "the Edge Lands", which signifies an environment that forms a border between the urban and the rural. For him, these spaces signify transition and change.
