About this artwork
This southwestern desert was once beneath an ancient sea. How things have changed! Although Arizona has more mountains than any other state, much of the character of the land is best revealed by the flatland plains, where mesquite, oak, and palo verde trees proliferate; creosote bushes, greasewood, ironwood and all manner of cactus from the stately saguaro to miniature teddybear cholla grow. Copper mining has been a mainstay of south and south-central…
Arizona, but other materials also abound, including pyrite: Fools Gold.

« My paintings are symbolic representation of an alternate reality that exists only in my mind. »
Lawrence Lee is an established American artist whose works have featured in prizes, exhibitions and permanent collections throughout the United States. An avid reader, he became fascinated by a book about art in high school and never looked back, going on to obtain a degree in Fine Arts and a career as an art teacher. Now an accomplished painter, he composes works that contain first impressions of realism with highly stylized detail, causing each viewer to contemplate, second-guess and closely engage with every vibrant, imaginative painting.
