When we are born into the world, we are open to the emir and can become anyone. We only have the body, senses, brain and skin to experience the world. Later, our experience begins to layer on us, like a second skin, consisting of victories, mistakes, interactions with other people. Each of us is a collage, a kaleidoscope, a puzzle, a patchwork quilt of it all. “Second skin” (experience), on the one hand, adorns and protects us. We wear it proudly,… like a beautiful dress or even armor. On the other hand, it limits us, shapes our fears, like a straitjacket.
Therefore, this installation is made as a kind of “Straitjacket” with long sleeves from photographs of me, places, things, life events that created my personality, my character. It both protects and limits me.
I made a pocket on the dress in the shape of a heart with the image of a crossword puzzle, because I am a crossword puzzle from several countries in which I lived, several languages, marriages, names, surnames, professions.
