I created this work to explore the union between life and death, expressing a vibrant and symbolic energy with acrylics and tempera. The figure represents the duality of existences, where nature and bright colors blend with dark elements, inviting reflection on the perpetual cycle of life. Len Vernaghi's work depicts Melpomene, the muse who presides over tragedy, wandering through a field of cherry blossoms. The woman holds a mask from ancient Greek… tragedy in her hands, as per tradition. The background is dominated by red and orange shades. In Greek mythology Melpomene (in ancient Greek: Μελπομένη, Melpomènē) was the muse of tragedy, daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, also known for her relationship with Dionysus. Its name derives from the ancient Greek μέλπομαι and means "to celebrate with dances and songs". Some legends maintain that the Sirens were born from her union with the river god Archeloos.
Len Vernaghi, originally from Porrentruy but deeply rooted in Italy, is a multidisciplinary person: painter, photographer, designer, textile artist, engraver, sculptor. He stands out for his portable fresco technique, combining traditional pigments with alternative solutions, and uniting contrasting themes and styles. Her works reveal a powerful socio-political commitment, giving voice to frugality, nature, femininity and marginal places, with an atmosphere of wonder derived from her dreamlike subjects.
