About this artwork
The work is a portable fresco made with acrylics and scagliola applied to canvas, the scagliola base is fragmented to age the painting. The colors are soft and brilliant and shine if the painting is exposed to sunlight or artificial light. The work depicts a group of farmers practicing the traditional Italian art of pressing grapes to make wine. The history of grape pressing in Italy dates back to ancient Roman times, when grapes were harvested and… pressed by foot into large vats. Crushing grapes is not a common practice in modern wineries, as it is not necessary in the winemaking process, but it can be useful for experiencing tradition. The
figures are expressive, immersed in a lush landscape symbolizing growth and rebirth. The vivid textures and bright colors convey a vital energy that brings warmth and festivity to every room of the home, celebrating the roots and communities that nourish us.
Len Vernaghi, originally from Porrentruy but deeply rooted in Italy, is a multidisciplinary person: painter, photographer, designer, textile artist, engraver, sculptor. He stands out for his portable fresco technique, combining traditional pigments with alternative solutions, and uniting contrasting themes and styles. Her works reveal a powerful socio-political commitment, giving voice to frugality, nature, femininity and marginal places, with an atmosphere of wonder derived from her dreamlike subjects.
