I created this work to explore the tension between isolation and transcendence. Using drafting ink and pencil, I layered figures and fragmentary forms, evoking a metaphysical journey through a futuristic landscape. A solitary figure with a walking stick stands amidst scorching lava—which consumes everything in its path—within a shifting reality, inviting the viewer to contemplate suffering, the struggle with one’s own conscience, and the hope for… redemption. This drawing will bring a profound, contemplative energy into your space, encouraging self-reflection and the search for meaning.
Leszek Gaczkowski is a self-taught painter and draftsman with a technical background, harnessing oil paints, pastels, charcoal, and ink on canvas and paper. His technique is a distinctive fusion of fantasy and surrealism, deeply rooted in magical realism, synthesizing traditional mediums for a unique artistic voice. He draws inspiration from Beksiński and Siudmak, inviting viewers into visionary worlds that convey both the joy and struggle of creation, and the wonder of artistic transformation.
