About this artwork
"We are all elusive icons, hanging on the wall of the world."
This work is not a portrait, it is an absent presence. I wanted to capture the essence of a Muse who eludes us, an icon that reveals and hides at the same time. I didn't use canvas, but the honest poverty of brown-dyed wrapping paper, fixing it to the Styrofoam with gold-colored screws.
On this ephemeral and tactile base, I traced Miss Darkness's face with a single, rapid, and nervous… spray can stroke. She isn't painted to last, but to exist in the moment you encounter her. The cuts and lacerations on the paper aren't mistakes, but necessary wounds that reveal the absence behind the image. It's an "Urban Poster" of thought, a graffiti of the soul: visible to all, but vanishing as soon as you try to grasp it. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you. Lhandy.
