About this artwork
In this oil painting, I offer a minimalist, avant-garde reimagining of the iconic Uzbek Pahta (cotton pod) pattern. My goal was to deconstruct a traditional tea ceremony through the lens of Geometric Cubism and Symbolic Ethno-Surrealism, stripping the elements down to their poetic essence.
The composition centers on a stylized ceramic teapot and traditional piala cups, broken into playful geometric color blocks of sky blue, sunshine yellow, and… deep emerald green. A delicate butterfly rests on the handle, while whimsical, animated cherry figures dance below. The background splits dynamically, contrasting a serene blue wash with a monochrome corner that nods to traditional Ikat textile patterns.
Reflecting the evolutionary spirit of contemporary Uzbek art, this decorative fine art canvas transforms heritage into a bold modern statement, bringing cultural warmth and avant-garde style to any sophisticated interior decor.
Li-Safi Mariya is a painter from Tashkent, trained in Uzbekistan’s leading art institutions and renowned for her academic and teaching background. Her symbolic ethno-surrealist and fantastic realist style fuses intricate pointillist mosaics with meditative ornamentation, juxtaposing smooth central figures against dense, vibrating backgrounds. Her artworks explore ancient mythology, everyday rituals, and the merging of science with folklore, evoking a profound sense of sacred calm and inviting viewers into visual labyrinths of wonder and memory.
