About this artwork
This work of a female hand with an apple wearing an orange dress. The work is covered with fragments out of old photo's; it is about fragments of memories that remain within us and surround us. We carry it with us throughout our lives. Consciously and subconsciously.
Each of my works is meant to serve merely as a mirror. The title and description of the work are only mine. As soon as it leaves my atelier it has a life of it's own. I always hope… that people seeing my work feel some sort of an emotional recognition and acknowledgement and are able to project their own (life-)stories in it and give it their own title.

Lia Kok's works explore the questions around dealing with challanges that surround nature and mankind.
What at first glance seems to refer to sheer natural beauty, can at second glance also pose questions. Details that look beautiful to the eye, can sometimes hide their potential destructive nature, like certain viruses and cells.
Nature however always finds ways to adapt and survive; finding new forms and new ways.
Nature in the work of Kok serves as a metaphore for mankind. Do we reflect, adapt and change in the face of challenges? Do we survive in a physical and psychological sense? If yes, how? If not, why?
The reflective stage plays the main role in the paintings that depict humans.
The work also aims to catch a glimpse of the mystery that surrounds all live.
Kok's artistic expression is a milieu between the figurative and the abstract.
She utilizes mixed media, mainly employing acrylics and oils, sometimes combining collage, embroidery, oil pastels and resin.
