« I like messing with people's minds in a folky kind of way. I have something to say and a way of connecting that I hope will give the viewer something to chew on. »
Liam Barr’s paintings have been extensively exhibited throughout New Zealand as well as in Australia, Canada, and Italy. His art questions how humans fit within the spaces they inhabit and examines themes of culture, identity, belonging, and environmental issues. Barr’s works always begin with a pencil and paper, where he collects and discards ideas. His pieces are composed using monochromatic tones, then painted over in oil with either opaque color or transparent layers.
