About this artwork
Look at this face. No, really LOOK at it.
This isn't just a smirk; it’s the ultimate "Checkmate." It’s that precise, electric moment when your opponent realizes the game was over ten moves ago, and I’m just here to enjoy the reveal. I wanted to capture that peak human satisfaction—the kind that is equal parts triumph and pure, unadulterated mischief.
I chose a monochromatic sepia palette for a reason: color is a distraction when you’re dealing… with an expression this loud. Every wrinkle, every crease around the eyes, and that signature brow furrow tells a story of a thousand jokes shared and a few more kept up the sleeve. It’s a celebration of the human face in its most expressive, albeit slightly wicked, glory.
This piece is a provocation. It dares you to smirk back, perhaps a bit uneasily, as if you’ve been caught in the act. But that’s the point—life is far too short to maintain a poker face.

Credentials
- Works on commission
I am a Lithuanian artist with more than three decades of experience in visual art, rooted in fresco, bas-relief, and monumental painting. Shaped by European cultural heritage and the old masters, I developed my practice through large-scale commissions for public and private interiors, where I learned to work with structure, surface, atmosphere, and emotional presence. Although I have worked in art for over 30 years, I began focusing on canvas painting only three years ago, which is why my exhibition history in this field is still emerging. In my paintings, I explore the human figure, quiet psychological tension, and the fragile balance between beauty and vulnerability. My wider practice also includes children’s book illustrations, album cover designs, and I was selected to paint for the film The Peasants.
