About this artwork
This painting depicts a large cartoon like snake and a small soft toy dog in conversation and play. The constant reminder from adults to Play Nice is evidenced here in text embedded in the painting. It's not always easy to do this when your playmate might at some point eat you, but you can try! It looks like somebody decided to just fly away as we can see by the tiny floating dog figure retreating in the sky next to the word, 'Play.' The broken dishes…
embedded at the bottom of the painting give testament to some hurt feelings along the way. Life is a continual game, which even we adults most learn how to play nicely.

« Collage allows me to combine my painted and sculptural imagery, resulting in pieces that are layered and dream-like. »
Linda Mitchell is a prizewinning American artist with international exposure. Her mixed media paintings and installations are populated by animals- both real and imagined. In these narrative works, the animals often become surrogates for human beings and their emotional lives. The paintings are often highly textured and made with painted and photographic images, fabric, wood, glass, and found objects. They coalesce into intricate and surreal scenes, reflecting life’s emotional complexity.
