The Energy Inside Me explores the essence of human spirituality and the eternal fire that resides within us all. I created this work as a meditation on inner strength, life-force and illumination, the quiet flame that continues to burn even when unseen.
The figure is presented as a vessel for spirit and presence, emerging from the wood with a sense of grounded intensity. Through carving and pyrography, I use line, shadow and contrast to suggest movement,… warmth and an inner radiance rather than a fixed pose.
Working with live-edge Spalted Birch is integral to the meaning. Its natural tonal variation allows light and darkness to coexist within the surface, echoing the balance between resilience and tenderness, clarity and depth. Charred areas carry weight and intensity, while lighter grain patterns evoke openness and illumination.
This piece invites reflection on the inner fire that shapes awareness, endurance and connection, a timeless spiritual energy held within the human form.
Llewellyn Scott is a UK-based artist and maker, working primarily in solid hardwoods like English Oak and Beech, with a background in fine woodworking, carving, and pyrography gained through hands-on experience. He merges traditional carving, controlled burning, hand-applied colour, and sculptural relief, creating expressive figurative works that sit between sculpture and drawing. His intuitive, material-driven technique lets wood's natural grain and imperfections guide each piece. Scott’s art resonates with emotional awareness, exploring identity, vulnerability, and resilience, inviting viewers into a quiet space of connection, introspection, and authenticity.
