« Di barbari » réinterprète la célèbre nature morte de Jacopo de' Barbari (1504) en y introduisant une transformation par le pliage. Ce geste déstabilise la hiérarchie traditionnelle établie entre la perdrix, symbole de vie fragile, et le gant de fer, emblème de force guerrière. Par le relief créé, les deux éléments entrent dans un nouveau rapport de tension et d'équivoque, brouillant les rangs. Le titre lui-même joue sur le nom de l'artiste pour… évoquer une réflexion sur la notion de « barbarie ». Ainsi, l'œuvre questionne, à travers la matière même de la peinture, les ordres établis et les relations de pouvoir entre le vulnérable et le dominant.
Lodewijk van Bodeghem, a Belgian artist and accomplished painter, works with gouache and sculpture, drawing on his solid training at the ERG in Brussels. His techniques combine layering opaque gouache and creating sculptures that function as three-dimensional paintings, playing with the tension between plane and space. His style oscillates between figuration and abstraction, precision and gestural freedom, inspired by virtual and historical imagery. The works he creates immerse the viewer in a visual poetry, a suspension of gaze between surface and depth, awakening curiosity and wonder.
