About this artwork
This work belongs to the I Ching Series, based on the Book of Changes, an ancient work of Taoist philosophy and oracle. This work represents hexagram 18 of the same name and refers to fixing or rectifying what has been ruined as a result of our mistakes.
The painting is created on six silkscreen panels that were once part of an unrealized project, hence its connection to the hexagram. Each individual panel is treated as a work of art in itself and,… at the same time, forms part of the overall composition. All of them reference the hexagram, from its graphic representation of fixed and changing lines, its Chinese ideogram, and various symbolic aspects such as the bowl full of worms representing decay, the boat representing the crossing of the great waters suggested by the oracle, or the final abstract graphic representing the uncertainty of destiny.
Lola Saavedra is a painter who graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1987. She uses experimental techniques and highly variable styles, from allegory to spontaneous expression, exploring life symbolically and drawing inspiration from music, movement, and landscapes. Her works radiate freedom, spiritual beauty, a deep connection with nature, and a vibrant energy capable of moving and connecting with those who view them. He has created various murals for Galician public centers and urban art projects such as Ruartefest (A Coruña, 2019) and Meninas de Canido (Ferrol, 2017). His work is in the collection of the Xunta de Galicia, as well as in various private collections in Spain, Italy, and Morocco.
