About this artwork
The painting is part of a much larger series of paintings on yupo paper in acrylic paint.
As an artist Louise has always been drawn to the beauty of the worn textures of old buildings this is an ongoing theme in all of her paintings, building up layers of paint that she washes and scraps away to create this body of work.
Living in a beautiful country as Portugal has been her inspiration, it is full of many colourful examples of old decaying buildings,… from painted houses to stone buildings, these colours and textures of wear that the sun and rain have created are wrapped up in this series.
These paintings are painted in acrylic on yupo

Louise Smith is a British painter with a BA in Fine Art, creating her abstract works in her Portuguese studio with acrylics, raw pigments, and various supports like canvas and paper. She crafts illusions of depth through layered textures, often using a minimal palette, inspired by the decay and history of old streets and buildings. Her paintings pulse with palpable emotion, guiding the viewer from vulnerability and frustration to pure elation through dynamic color and texture.
