About this artwork
It was while thinking of the landscapes of Scotland that I decided to paint this canvas. These lands of dark and mysterious beauty with their diffuse and intense light always arouse in me a kind of inner exaltation. It was not a question here of restoring a realistic image but an emotion taking the form of an abstract landscape. Breaking with habits, I started by completely covering the surface of the canvas with an undiluted Payne's Gray and… then depositing them as they dried, thin layers of white tinted with yellow ocher in places. The transitions of the background with green and white were more delicate to create since it was a question of preserving the transparency of the colors while blending them together. The result evokes one of those remote lands with extreme living conditions.
Luc Andrieux is an artist based in France whose works have been presented in several solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. For him, painting is like a vital necessity. Through his compositions, Andrieux's goal is to generate a questioning contemplation, to freeze time and to induce an atmosphere suggested by the hidden face of the elements. His abstractions, landscapes and figurative works are most often created using acrylics on canvas, oil being reserved for the treatment of more complex effects. Luc Andrieux does not limit himself to a particular style or theme that would limit his expression but chooses those that are most in line with his vision of the moment.
